Betfair invites Arsenal players to judge an amateur match
The official betting partner of London Arsenal Betfair betting exchange has started a new campaign called “Back The Whistleblowers”.
The goal of the campaign is the necessity to emphasize the role of referees in a match as well as understanding the difficulties of this profession.
To launch the campaign, Betfair invited three Gunners to judge an amateur match. Olivier Giroud, Nacho Monreal and Petr Cech tried themselves in the role of Themis. The accuracy of the players’ decision was evaluated by the former EPL referees Mark Halsey and Glenn Turner.
According to the experts, Arsenal’s Spanish defender proved to be the best. As Monreal said himself, the referee job turned out to be much harder, than he expected.
Betfair representative Harry Phillips said, that their company wanted to show the importance of the role of a football referee this way. Phillips also noted, that referee is one of the hardest jobs in sports, but someone has to do it.
The company also pledged to donate 10 Pounds for every yellow card, shown in the EPL. This money will go to special courses referee training to improve their skills.
