Birmingham vs Sunderland Prediction 31 January 2018

Match date:

On January 30 2018 at 19:45 at the St. Andrew’s Stadium in Birmingham in the upcoming match of the English Football League Championship 29th game week the local Birmingham City are playing against their guests Sunderland.

These teams are the outsiders of the Football League Championship in the current season and they are competing against each other for survival. Birmingham are now on the 23rd position in the standings with 24 points gained while Sunderland are on one position above them with 25 points.

The Blues look really poor at home now. In the latest five matches at the domestic stadium they lost four times and only won once with just one goal difference. Moreover, they have only scored 8 goals in their 14 home games which is absolutely the worst result of the league. They are also the least efficient team of the Championship, as they have only scored 16 goals in all of their matches played. They haven’t outplayed the outsiders of the league at the domestic pitch as they only gained points playing against Bolton from the 20th position as they drew 0:0 and lost to Reading from the 18th position 0:2. Yet, they won a few matches against the teams from the promotion play-offs zone like Bristol City and Cardiff City. Such surprising results can be explained, in fact. We think that it’s difficult from Birmingham to show attacking football playing against the outsiders as they tend to defend.

As the Black Cats, they are also in the relegation zone now and yet they show comparatively good results in their away matches as for one of the outsiders of the league. They lost six times in the away matches and they only lost once to the team from the bottom of the table. In the rest of the matches they lost to the teams from the first half of the standings. They also scored the average of more than one goal in their 14 away matches.

Sunderland will have a few players missing from the squad for various reasons while Birmingham doesn’t have any serious losses. In the latest two games the Black Cats didn’t lose to the Blues as they won 3:0 in the year 2014 and drew 1:1 in the first round game of the current championship. Consequently, we don’t really think that this time Birmingham will manage to win.
