Celtic vs Alashkert Prediction 18 July 2018

Tournament: UEFA Champions League Qualification
Location: Celtic Park
Match date: 18.07.2018 at 19:45

On July 18 2018 at 19:45 at the Celtic Park in Glasgow in the upcoming second leg match of the UEFA Champions League qualification the local Celtic are playing against their guests Alashkert.

We have already seen the match like that last year when Celtic met the champions of Norther Ireland Linfield in the Champions League qualifiers. In the first leg game played away from home Celtic outplayed their competitors 2:0 having scored both of the goals by the 22nd minute. So, the second leg match was just formal and everybody thought that they would play that game with the second squad without trying too hard. Yet, with their domestic fans watching Celtic outplayed Linfield with the devastating 4:0 score and yet it could have been bigger, as it seems to us. That hosts were doing whatever they wanted to.

The situation is almost the same this time. This year Celtic started their Euro Cups campaign with the game against Alashkert from Armenia. The away match against them wasn’t a very easy and yet the Celts won with a convincing 0:3 score. The hosts were fighting hard and yet they were obviously weaker in physics as they missed their goals at the end of the halves when they got tired and lost concentration. Celtic looked really strong and they did it with 35 degrees heat which isn’t usual for them. It seems to us that they will be even stronger at home at their usual climate.

The first game proved the difference in class. It wasn’t just the fact that Alashkert were not as strong physically, they weren’t skilled enough either. They almost didn’t commit attempts and even the ones they committed weren’t very dangerous ones. They tried to defend the goal with a lot of players and yet, as you see it from the final score, they weren’t that successful at it.

It will be even more difficult for Alashkert to play in Scotland. Yes, Celtic are almost in the next round of the qualification and yet that’s not their only motivation, obviously. A year ago Celtic outplayed Linfield 4:0 and the solid Astana 5:0 and the season ago they won against Lincoln, Astana and Hapoel with 10:3 goal difference. That’s why we think that the Celts are going to win once again and to do it with a convincing score.
