Manchester City to extend contract with Guardiola

English Manchester City intend to extend the contract with Josep Guardiola and are confident in the positive response of the coach.

In 2021, the contract of the Catalan specialist with the Citizens will come to an end. Therefore, Manchester City are already preparing a new proposal to extend the agreement with the former coach of Barcelona and Bayern.

The Spaniard himself is interested in continuing cooperation, as he raised the players and put a lot of effort into the development of the project of investors from the Middle East. He assembled the team, completely in line with himself and intends to continue to strengthen it. In the pre-season transfer window already, the Citizens plan to sign Leicester central defender Soyuncu to replace the injured Laporte.

Guardiola was the first to declare a desire to renew the contract at the end of November. Back then Pep said,

“I am comfortable working in this club. Of course, the situation depends on our results. Let's see what happens in this and next seasons.

I am open to negotiations, but it is not so simple. I want to see the reaction of the players and the club, to see how we are still working together. This is the most important thing after five years of collaboration. You must feel that we can do this together and enjoy it.”

Over the course of a three-year career in Manchester, Guardiola managed to win the FA Cup, the English League Cup twice and became the champion twice. Nevertheless, this season the City is stalling due to injuries that hit Leroy Sane, Aymerick Laporte and Oleksandr Zinchenko. Because of this, Fernandinho plays in the center of defense in tandem with Stones or Otamendi, which does not provide peace of mind at the goal of Ederson.

Therefore, Manchester City now occupy only the third place, 11 points behind Liverpool, and Leicester are three points ahead of them. It seems that the Citizens this season will be left without a Premier League trophy, focusing on the Champions League. But wouldn’t the management’s decision be correct by submitting a contract to Guardiola now, and not at the end of the European campaign? They should have taken some time, since at Bayern everything was going the same way for Pep.
