Barcelona are looking for Suarez’s replacement

Catalan Barcelona following the managerial change are looking for a replacement candidacy for the place of a forward after Luis Suarez’s injury.

Last week, doctors diagnosed a relapse of a meniscus injury in the match of the Champions League semi-final against Liverpool in Luis Suarez. Then the Uruguayan underwent surgery, without which he could not go this time. The striker’s recovery will take about four months, so Barcelona need to find a new nine instead of Suarez.

Despite the fact that Antoine Griezmann can play on this position, it is unclear, how will Quique Setien. Therefore, the possibility of arrival of a new central forward is much higher than Griezmann on the edge of attack in the team from the capital of Catalonia.

The list of main applicants no longer includes Kevin-Prince Boateng, whom Barcelona surprised with the entire football world last season. Now on the short list are Lautaro Martinez, Christian Stuani and Chimi Avila with Gabigol.

The transfer of Lautaro Martinez from Inter is unlikely to take place, since the striker has stable playing practice at the club, acting together with Romelu Lukaku. Next summer his compensation will amount to 111 million euros, and the buyback option will last two weeks. Therefore, in winter, Barca are unlikely to throw sky-high money for the Argentinean. Stuani performs well in Girona, which dropped to Segunda at the end of last season. The 33-year-old Uruguayan scored 16 goals in 18 matches, but his compensation from 7 million euros increased to 25 million after he extended the contract in the summer until 2023.

The most acceptable options for Setien may be Chimi Avila and Gabigol. The first of Osasuna scored nine goals this season and made three assists in 18 matches of La Liga, and his compensation is the same 25 million as that of Stuani, only he is eight years younger. As for Gabigol, the Brazilian belongs to Inter. On loan to Flamengo, he scored 34 goals and gave 11 assists, so the price of Gabriel Barboza will be an order of magnitude higher. True, Barcelona can take advantage of the fact that Inter would like to get Arturo Vidal, who is also not averse to go to Italy.

Thus, Gabigol would fit Barcelona best, despite his terrible character and experience of play in Europe. Other players have experience of play in Spain, which is significantly more profitable for the Catalan team. However, they are not fit for the part of Suarez’s constant substitute and taking conditional Gabigol for the part 50+ million euros with Vidal’s transfer is not really far-sighted.
