Setien will not let Vidal go from Barcelona

Catalan Barcelona new head coach Quique Setien has blocked Vidal’s departure from the club at least until summer.

Quique Setien headed Barcelona not so long ago after Ernesto Valverde’s departure, but is already beginning to conduct small reforms at the club. Despite the fact that the manager was given three months with a possibility of further contract extension, he intends to take advantage of the management’s trust and remain for a long period.

The Catalans considered inviting Xavi for the head coach post; however, the legendary halfback reckons that it is too early for him to take up this position,

“I received an offer from Barcelona through Eric Abidal and Oscar Grau. I did not accept it. It is to early for my managerial career, but I still dream of becoming Barcelona manager.”

First and foremost, Setien decided to keep Arturo Vidal, who wanted to leave for Inter Milan not so long ago. The manager considers the Chilean as a conductor between midfield and attack. That is exactly where the main problems for the Catalans were concentrated this season. Considering that previously Luis Suarez dropped out for a long period because of an  injury, Setien needs to build Barcelona’s game on the ideology he instilled Betis, borrowed fro Johan Cruyff.

Vidal can become a key figure for Barcelona in terms of moving from defense to attack. Considering that the Catalans will not have a pronounced center-forward, the style of game can return to Guardiola-like, when Blaugranas played with a false nine, who were David Villa and Lionel Messi.

The first steps of Setien in Barcelona seem logical. The management invited the coach, who is guided by the same philosophy, which helped the club become the best team in the world and it would be stupid to stop his aspirations. Therefore; a lot of work is waiting for the Spaniard as well as a complicated situation in the locker-room and leaders’ injuries, but if he manages, he will most likely remain at Camp Nou even with interest from Ronald Koeman and Mauricio Pochettino, who has denied arrival to Barcelona by far.
