Barcelona are trying to keep ter Stegen

Catalan Barcelona are trying to make a deal with Marc-Andre ter Stegen regarding contract extension.

The Spanish league leaders got one of the most stable goalkeepers of the modern football. The German can easily compete with Manuel Neuer in his best years and because of that demands proper regard and material compensation for his game. The other day, another meeting of the club’s representatives with the football player on the extension of the contract was to be held, but it was canceled.

The difficulty in the negotiations is the financial crisis associated with the Coronavirus. Representatives of Bundesliga had previously suggested that it would be Barcelona that would suffer the most from the pandemic, so ter Stegen took a waiting position. Nevertheless, the club is confident that they will be able to extend the contract with the goalkeeper for four or five seasons. This year, the club offered the German a contract that raised his salary to 6.5 million euros per year, but he declined.

Former Barcelona footballer, in which he won Ballon D’Or, Rivaldo, expressed his opinion on this matter,

“Barcelona are negotiating an extension of the contract with ter Stegen, and I agree that he deserves a pay raise for everything he has done for the club over the past few years.

Of course, a lot will depend on the requirements of the player. I don’t think that ter Stegen should earn at the same level as Suarez or Messi, but he should become one of the highest paid players in the team.”

There were also rumors earlier that Barcelona could sign Neuer, as an alternative to ter Stegen. The latter also has disagreements with Bayern on a new contract, but it is unlikely that a big fire will burn out of this smoke. Right now the German is close to extending the agreement, which means that ter Stegen will remain at the Camp Nou. Given his goalkeeper skills and excellent footwork, the Catalans should fork out so as not to lose a quality keeper.
