Marotta intends to keep Lautaro at Inter

Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta is confident that the club will manage to keep Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine forward has booked himself a spot in Inter Milan’s starting line-up for the past year. The forward moved to Italy in 2018 and immediately started competing with Mauro Icardi for a spot in the line-up. And after a scandalous departure of his countryman to PSG he took his place and together with Romelu Lukaku tries to win Scudetto under the management of Antonio Conte.

Due to the swift progress, top clubs of Europe want to purchase the footballer. Manchester United and Catalan Barcelona show substantial interest amongst those. The latter have long been keeping eye on the forward and see him as a long-term replacement of Luis Suarez. According to rumors, Lautaro himself doesn’t mind ending up in one team with Argentina icon Lionel Messi, but right now Inter’s management in the person of Giuseppe Marotta, who is hoping to extend the contract with the goalscorer, prevents him from that to happen,

“Lautaro is flattered by the interest of big clubs, many would like to get him. But under my management Martinez has never expressed desire to leave. I am optimistic about the extension of his contract.”

At the moment, the Catalans can get Lautaro by paying the whole compensation sum of 111 million euros. But considering financial hardship of the Spanish giant, Barca intend to wait until 15 July, when the footballer’s mandatory buyout sum will come out of force. People at Camp Nou are confident that in that case they will manage to reach an agreement with Inter regarding the footballer’s transfer by market price. Moreover, there was an opinion in the media that Barcelona agreed on a personal contract with Martinez, according to which he will get 12 million euros a year.

Lautaro actually fits Barcelona’s profile. He is capable of theoretically becoming a replacement for Luis Suarez and resolve the issue of the forward position for years ahead, considering that right now he is only 22. But then again, Antoine Griezmann’s role, who was bought for 120 million euros for Barcelona is absolutely not clear. The only logical explanation of the Frenchman’s future is Lionel Messi’s retirement. That is the only way he can show himself in this team.
