Thirty years of waiting for Liverpool

Thirty years of waiting for Liverpool

The Red part of Liverpool has finally waited for a victory in the championship of England for the first time in 30 years.

Last time the team from river Mersey banks was in 1990, having overtaken Aston Villa, which are now fighting for survival, at the finish line. After the championship season, the Premier League was created, where the Reds did not manage to raise the cup over their heads even in the happiest era with Rafael Benitez.

However, Jurgen Klopp managed to gradually win the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup for the club, losing one point to Manchester City in the previous domestic campaign. Nevertheless, the Reds took advantage of the Citizens throwing all their  strength on the European cups and this season lost unacceptably many points. On Thursday, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea outplayed Pep Guardiola’s team, which left City without mathematical chances for the championship title as well as helped Liverpool secure the fastest title seven rounds before the end of the championship.

After the match the Reds’ former forward Ian Rush commented on the victory of his native team in the league,

“This team will be remembered forever. During career, your job is to continue playing and after the end of the career you understand that you and the club did a great job. This players will become legends, which is quite deserved. I hope this is only the beginning, but it will not be easy, because all the clubs will strive for progress,” Rush stated.

In terms of that, Rush is right, as inviting Klopp to Liverpool, the bet was made exactly on the championship title. And Klopp was very lucky with the comeback in the Champions League semi-final match against Barcelona. As in three years without a cup, some players deservedly could leave the club, which cannot win trophies.

The situation is changing a little. The Scousers’ triumph can be taken for granted, because they have long reached the same level as Manchester City, which means that cups should fill the club museum. The next task for the German manager is to repeat the achievement of Manchester United and take the treble. Considering the Premier League’s current incredible competition, it will be difficult to do, but Klopp is not the one, who will throw his hands with first failure. Two advancements to the Champions League final in two years is a direct proof of that.
