Aubameyang breaks Henry’s record

London Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang broke club legend Thierry Henry’s record.

In Arsenal’s past match against the Premier League outsiders Norwich, the Gunners achieved a smashing victory 4:0. Apart from Xhaka and Soares’ goals, Gabonese forward Aubameyang also made a brace. Also, one assist was in his asset in that match.

Thanks to that, the Gabonese managed to reach the mark of 50 goals ahead of all Arsenal players in history. The previous record was 83 matches and belonged to Thierry Henry. The Borussia Dortmund ex-player needed only 79 games for that.

Aubameyang is on sixth place in the overall list of sharpshooters, falling behind Andy Cole (65 matches), Alan Shearer (68), Ruud van Nistelrooy (68), Fernando Torres and Mohamed Salah (both 72).

Despite the record and the fact that Arsenal defeated the opponent confidently, several notes should be made. First of all, the Gunners played against clear outsiders, occupying the last place in the Premier League. Norwich and Aston Villa share the garland by number of conceded goals this season (60). Secondly, Arsenal have long been having a clear lean towards attack.

In the last years of Arsene Wenger’s management at Emirates, problems with defense were an integral part of the team. After the arrival of Unai Emery, that did not go anywhere and because of that Arsenal did not manage to win anything in recent years apart from the cups and super cups of England. Mikel Arteta, who came to the team, understands that at the moment he will not be able to improve Arsenal’s game without a transfer window, if not to create a clear artificial lean towards attack.

They are counting on this, since both the coach and the team understand that they have many vulnerable areas. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on their strongest side - the attack. In a way, it resembles Liverpool's play in the early years under Jürgen Klopp and his football rock and roll. It is only because of these components that Aubameyang’s new record became possible, which at the same time does not cancel his personal goalscoring qualities.
