Sobol: it is invaluable experience for us

Left back of the Ukraine national team Eduard Sobol commented on the unsatisfactory results of the Blue-Yellows in recent matches.

The Ukrainian national team, according to the results of the first draw of the Nations League snatched a ticket to league A where it got into the same group with the national teams of Germany, Spain and Switzerland. In the first duel, Andriy Shevchenko's team beat the Crusaders, after which they lost to Spain and the Germans.

Ahead of the third round of the Nations League, the Ukrainian national team was crippled by the coronavirus, due to which 14 players were left out of the squad. Because of this, Andriy Shevchenko had to urgently bring back the veteran and current coach of the goalkeepers of the national team Oleksandr Shovkovskyi to the squad. Fortunately, the 45-year-old goalkeeper did not have to play against the France national team in a friendly match, but the Blue-and-Yellows lost 1:7 devastatingly.

The duel with Germany was no exception and at the NSC Olimpiyskyi the hosts lost 1:2, showing a nondescript game. Although it was understandable given the team's problems lately. After the encounter, the left back of the national team, as well as the player of the Belgian Brugge Eduard Sobol, spoke about this,

“We perfectly understand which group we are in. Therefore, we try to tune in to each match as to the final one. If the team manages to fulfill the plan of the coaching staff, then the positive result will be much closer.

In this tournament, this is the debut of the Ukrainian national team among such monsters, therefore, to gain a foothold in such a company, I think, would be a good result for our team. We will only progress in rivalry with such opponents,” Sobol admitted.

Ukrainian media immediately criticized the persistence of its own national team to play with leading rivals in friendly matches, as well as League A of the Nations League. I consider it an invaluable experience for youngsters in the face of disastrous circumstances.

In the pandemic, this can happen at Euro 2021. What happened to the Ukrainian national team at the beginning of October is an experience that will benefit both the players and the coaching staff, since they will already know how to act in such situations. Moreover, the Ukrainians entered the Euro from the first place and such defeats brought the players from cloud nine back to the ground. After all, we all remember very well how the Blue-Yellows lost all matches in the group stage at the 2016 continental championship to Germany, Northern Ireland and Poland, too much believing in themselves. Therefore, the correct conclusions must be drawn from the situation and Andriy Shevchenko is an extremely smart coach in order to do this in a timely manner.
