Borussia fired Favre and found a replacement for him

Borussia Dortmund decided to replace head coach Lucien Favre after a crushing defeat to Stuttgart in the latest round of the Bundesliga.

Lucien Favre began coaching in the previous century, after which he could not leave his native Swiss championship for ten years. But in 2007 he took charge of Hertha, after which he worked with Borussia Mönchengladbach for four years and coached French Nice for two seasons. It was in the camp of the Eagles that Favre achieved significant success in the 2016/17 season, taking bronze medals and leading the team to the Champions League.

The success of the Swiss did not go unnoticed, and in 2018 already he took over the head coach post of Borussia Dortmund. The Black-and-Yellows failed to throw Bayern off the podium, as well as make a qualitative leap in terms of the game. While everything is clear with the results in the Bundesliga, they also left much to be desired in the Champions League. Under Favre, Borussia twice dropped out  from the play-off round of 16. First offenders of the Bumblebees were Tottenham, and last season - PSG. Both times the team had every chance to advance, but poor coaching decisions and lack of stability in defense made the difference.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the defeat from Stuttgart was the last straw of the Dortmund bosses' patience. Borussia are not progressing like Leipzig, having enough resources for this. The decision of the management to sack the coach, although delayed, is fair,

“It is difficult for us to take this step. However, we believe that the achievement of our goals for the season is under great threat due to recent negative events. Therefore, we must act,” said the sporting director of Borussia Michael Zorc.

Gianluca Di Marzio has already announced that the club has an agreement with the coach of the Bumblebees’ namesakes from Mönchengladbach, Marco Rose. The German began his journey with Lokomotiv from Leipzig, after which he worked with Red Bull and achieved serious success there in recent years. Therefore, promotion to Borussia Monchengladbach was a logical step. Under him, the team made it to the Champions League playoffs for the first time, had a draw with Real Madrid and crushed Shakhtar Donetsk 10:0 on aggregate. The football shown by the men from Monchengladbach is very energy-consuming, but effective. Therefore, we believe that with the right approach and personnel, the Bumblebees and Rose will be able to make a fuss in the Bundesliga and Europe. Since wherever Marco worked, he quickly gave results.
