Will Konate be at Liverpool?

The reigning champions of England may strengthen their defense with Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.

Konate is 21 years old, the player was raised and brought to the top of the European football by German RB Leipzig, which bought him from Sochaux back in the day. Among the obvious advantages of the player is his height (194 cm), good speed and positional play for his age. In the Bulls camp, Konate had a strong 2018/19 season when he entered the pitch in 28 Bundesliga matches and helped the team score two points per game on average.

This season, Konate has taken part in just 15 matches in all tournaments. In December, he suffered an ankle injury, which caused the Frenchman to miss nine matches and then rarely appear in the Leipzig line-up.

Liverpool's interest in the defender was initially announced by The Athletic. Later, Fabrizio Romano himself confirmed rumors that the Scousers could pay 40 million euros for Konate this summer. But later, the club's sporting director, Markus Krosche, commented,

“I cannot say anything on this topic. I think this is not the best option for Ibrahima. He has a fairly long contract with RB Leipzig, and he knows what we mean to him and what he means to us.

Last year he was unlucky as he had a more serious injury, but this year he is in good shape and is an extremely important player with great potential,” the functionary said.

Perhaps Liverpool hopes that Konate's young body will endure injury without much difficulty. But given the trend of injuries in players at Anfield, We wouldn't rely on luck and chance. Kabak is clearly not a panacea for Virgil van Dijk's injury, just as Ben Davies is not a replacement for Matip and Joe Gomez. Therefore, we would not romanticize the possible arrival of the young player, as everything can turn out much more prosaic.
