De Boer to give van Dijk chance

The Netherlands national team head coach Frank de Boer doesn’t deny the appearance of Virgil van Dijk in the national team.

Liverpool center-back Virgil van Dijk suffered a serious knee injury last October in the match against Everton. After that, the Dutchman did not appear on the field this season and there is a high probability that he will not play in the European Championship.

Nevertheless, the defender's recovery is going according to plan. At the beginning of March, he had already returned to running on the training ground, but at the same time he had not yet worked in the general group. Initial statements by doctors from Liverpool said that Virgil will not appear in the current season, which we see at the time of the 35th round of the Premier League.

However, the defender still has a little chance to appear in the Netherlands national team. This was indirectly said by Oranje head coach Frank de Boer, stating that Van Dijk's decision is in his hands,

“This is his career, and he has to decide. I can imagine the dilemma he faces. In terms of the national team, I hope Virgil makes tremendous progress in his recovery,” de Boer told ESPN.

While this does not mean much, but the fact that without him, both Liverpool and the national team are going through hard times is a fact. The Reds run the risk of not getting into the Champions League at the end of the current season and occupy sixth place, having been eliminated from all cup competitions. During this time, the Netherlands drew with the Bosnians, Italians and Spaniards, and also lost to the Turkey national team in the qualification for the World Cup.

Thanks to his defensive play with double force van Dijk seriously taught Liverpool and the Netherlands not to worry about the rear. While Oranje have de Ligt for that, then the Reds are extremely unlucky. Jurgen Klopp used 21 different line-ups of center-backs over the course of the season. Because of this, the team had to devote more time to safety and in 34 matches the Liverpool scored only 57 goals, conceding 39 goals. For comparison, Manchester United have a statistic of 67:36, and Manchester City - 72:26.

Therefore, we hope that van Dijk will soon return to the field and to his previous level. Fortunately, such a shake-up will give a lot of experience to the leadership of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp and even Frank de Boer, who, after the departure of Ronald Koeman, did not particularly work with the defender.
