Pjanic: Koeman was killing my self-confidence

After the move from Barcelona to Besiktas, Miralem Pjanic has cleared up the situation, which he had at the Catalan club.

Miralem Pjanic was considered one of the best midfielders of 2010’s in Italian Serie A. Five seasons for Roman Roma, four for Juventus and the same amount of Scudetto won. It seemed that in his 30s he would still be able to play at a high level and would help the Old Signora. But the offer from Barcelona last year made heads spin of both Juventus and the footballer himself.

After a terrible season and a 2-8 defeat to Bayern Munich, Barcelona tried to strengthen themselves in every possible way. They took a really cool footballer to midfield, even though they had Busquets, de Jong, young Pedri and returning Coutinho.

Back then, Pjanic did not suspect that such a challenge would derail his career. With Ronald Koeman in the team, he did not have a stable playing practice and he could not even have a good conversation with the coach,

“I moved after a two-week vacation, started training on my own to get ready and join my teammates. And nothing happened. Two, three, four, seven, ten days had passed, and the coach never once talked to me about what he thought about the season, about me. Very strange, but okay.

This was just the beginning. Okay, let’s calm down, I'm working, I want to fight for a place in the squad, to fit well into the team. And nothing. Time is running. I play one match, miss another, then go out again, and then sit down on the bench again. And I was fine,” Pjanic said in an interview with Marca newspaper.

In total, the Bosnian played 30 matches in Blaugrana jersey and did not have any efficient actions. When the cleanup of the roster loomed on the horizon, he chose the first option that came across, which was Besiktas. Wouldn’t you agree that it’s not the best option for the former player of Lyon, Roma, Juventus and Barcelona? But for the midfielder, practice was of utmost importance. And he made the right choice there.
