Borussia fans are against UCL reform!

Borussia Dortmund supporters expressed their indignation at the Champions League reforms before the match with Sporting.

The creation of the Super League this spring triggered a response mechanism. UEFA had to find ways to balance the conditions promised by the creators of the new tournament and the current Champions League.

The functionaries from Switzerland did not come up with a better way than increasing the number of teams from 32 to 36. At the same time, options are possible in which there will be six teams in groups and each of them will play 10 matches in total, or the introduction of an innovative Swiss system. The second option implies the absence of groups, the same 10 matches, but with teams that have achieved identical results before (win, loss, draw).

Taking into account the increase in the number of matches, the profit will also increase, but with this the load on the players will also increase. Therefore, the Black-and-Yellows’ fans hung out a banner before the match with Sporting with a striking slogan: “Stop the Champions League reforms! Football is for millions of fans, not for billions of euros!”

They also signed a joint statement with Bayern fans stating that increased revenue for clubs playing in the new Champions League will help widen the league gap between clubs. Accordingly, this will lead to a decrease in the level of competition in them.

For me, it is noteworthy that the idea of this protest was fired up by fans of clubs that constantly participate in the Champions League. By all the logic of things, it would be in their hands to see Borussia and Bayern breaking away from Bayer, Wolfsburg, Eintracht and other rivals. But the feeling of justice is stronger among the fans, for which we can only applaud them.

On the other hand, it seems to us that this will do nothing, since the division into black and white is popularized in the modern world. UEFA may regard such actions as an attempt to justify the Super League, but in reality it is an attempt to keep football in an adequate position, and not to choose the lesser of evils.
