Bale and Simeone are out of work!

Two legends of the Madrid football of recent years have announced cardinal changes in their lives! Welshman Gareth Bale is hanging up his boots and Diego Simeone is stepping down as Atlético manager after 12 years of fruitful work.

In the early 2010s, Bale was the real leader of Tottenham and their motor on the football pitch. His skills were improved to such an extent that Real Madrid decided to shell out solid money for him, even breaking Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer record! Although the Welshman did not play like CR7 in the Spanish capital, he still brought a lot of benefits to the team. Like, for example, the goals scored in the 2014 Copa del Rey and Champions League finals.

Until 2018, Gareth, along with Cristiano and Karim Benzema, made up a killer trio of Real Madrid forwards, which the media called the BBC and pushed them against the trident of Barcelona’s MSN (Messi, Suarez and Neymar). The apotheosis of Bale's career was the 2018 Champions League final, when he scored a double, and Los Blancos dealt with Liverpool (3-1). Then came a series of injuries and a fanatical passion for golf. In the summer of 2022, the 33-year-old forward went to play at Los Angeles FC, where he managed to become the MLS champion. Then there was an inexpressive World Cup in the Wales national team, after which Gareth decided that he had had enough.

Diego Simeone joined Atlético at the end of 2011 as an unknown 41-year-old coach who dreamed of taking his once native club to the next level. He succeeded almost immediately - in 2012, the Argentine led Los Colchoneros to triumph in the Europa League, and two and four years later, respectively, El Cholo’s powerful gang lit up in the Champions League finals. Unfortunately, both times they were defeated by Real Madrid after 1-1 in regular time. Two years later, Simeone lifted the Europa League Cup over his head for the second time. In addition, he boasts two La Liga titles and one Spanish Cup.

As you can see, in the 2010s, Atlético successfully wedged themselves into the hegemony of Real and Barcelona in the domestic arena, and in 2021, taking advantage of the giants’ crisis, took gold medals again. At that time, Simeone's concept of defensive football had already cracked, and in the future, his style of play became more and more outdated. The collapse came in the current campaign, when Los Colchoneros were eliminated from European competition after the group stage, and in La Liga they risk falling out of the top 4 for the first time in many years. Against this backdrop, frankly tired of work, Simeone decided to leave the club at the end of the season.

We are completely sure that after some time Diego Simeone will find a new job for himself, although it will be very difficult for him to kill all the achievements with Atlético. But Gareth Bale will surely forget about football as a nightmare, focusing his energy on golf and other joys of life.
