New transfer ban for Barcelona!
Barcelona will not be able to register new players next summer due to a transfer ban! According to La Liga President Javier Tebas, the Catalans do not have the means to reinforce the squad, but they can sell their valuable assets at any time.
The previous Blaugrana owner Josep Bartomeu drove the club into a financial hole. He wasted around half a billion euros in the transfer market by bringing in Dembele, de Jong, Coutinho and Griezmann. And while the first two have more or less fit in, then the Brazilian and the Frenchman no longer perform at the Camp Nou. The Catalans have also inflated the payroll and are now forced to cut the salaries of their best players. And if, for example, Dembele was sympathetic to this, then de Jong wants to keep his income and continue to defend the colors of Barcelona.
Despite all the financial difficulties, the Catalans did a good job in the transfer market last summer. They brought in Lewandowski, Kounde, Christensen, Alonso, Kessie and Raphinha, most of whom came to the club as free agents. And even for such deals, current boss Blaugrana Laporta was forced to sell some of the club's assets. He hoped that under the leadership of Xavi the club would perform adequately in the Champions League and recoup all expenses, but in fact Barcelona dropped out in the Europa League round of 32 against Manchester United.
Against the backdrop of this setback, La Liga President Javier Tebas reminded the Catalans that Spain has recently enforced tight financial controls. The club now spends £532m on wages and transfers, while the standard is £399m. The sale of TV rights and merchandise is not helping the Blaugrana to break even, and they still have no money for incoming transfers. Given all these points, the league banned the Catalan giants from signing new players next summer.
In the recent past, Barcelona have already received a similar ban, but the decision did not feel much damage from this decision. Now the Blaugrana are well-equipped in all positions, the head coach Xavi has credibility from the management, and this season the club is close to the first La Liga title in four years. On the other hand, the Catalans will have to continue to unload the payroll. We are sure that Frenkie de Jong will leave the club, and the positions of Raphinha and Kessie are far from being the most stable.
As you can see, a few years later, Barcelona are reaping the fruits of President Bartomeu’s improper transfer activity. Nevertheless, the club will survive all the inconveniences without any problems, as its margin of safety is still solid.
