Arsenal rejuvenate squad?
Arsenal are ready to sign West Ham central midfielder Declan Rice in the upcoming transfer window! Should this be the case, Granit Xhaka would lose an important role in the team, who is closer than ever to leaving the Emirates.
For six years, West Ham graduate Declan Rice has been a key player for the Hammers, and in the last couple of years for England. The football player is strong, first of all, in destruction, thanks to which he is very suitable for the requirements of both David Moyes and Gareth Southgate. Rice is only 24 years old and he no longer wants to sit in a mid-table club, so he is waiting for offers from the top sides.
Arsenal are interested in Declan the most, which, under the leadership of Mikel Arteta, are gradually regaining their former power. In the current campaign, the Gunners have long been going to the first league title in 19 years, but two defeats from direct rivals Manchester City (1:3, 1:4) may just ruin this dream. Whatever one may say, the Londoners lack the squad depth, and some of the main players no longer correspond to the team ambitions.
As for us, Declan Rice will greatly reinforce Arsenal and add solidity to them in the center of midfield, where there is practically no alternative to the age-old Partey, Xhaka and Jorginho. Given the age of the West Ham midfielder, he has at least eight years of active career ahead of him. It is unlikely that the Hammers will ask a huge amount for Rice, because his contract with the club expires in the summer of 2024.
At the same time, the working agreement between Granit Xhaka and Arsenal comes to an end – it’s possible that the Londoners will say goodbye to the Swiss in a couple of months. During his career, the 30-year-old Swiss defended the colors of Borussia Monchengladbach (four years) and the Gunners (seven) and proved himself not only as a quality defender, but also as a leader on the football pitch and in the locker room. Without Granit, the Gunners will have a very difficult time, but the parties are unlikely to agree on an extension of the contract, given all the circumstances.
Arsenal continue to rejuvenate the squad and build a new team hungry for victories. Perhaps it’s Declan Rice that the Gunners lack to finally not only challenge Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, but also make some noise in the continental arena?
