Man Utd leave Tottenham without the Cup

The semi-final matches of the English Cup took place on weekend, in which Manchester United minimally defeated Tottenham and Chelsea confidently overcame Southampton.

The Spurs took the game under control from the first minutes, having scored on the eleventh minute. Like the match against Chelsea in the championship, Manchester United soon equalized one goal with the help of Alexis Sanchez. On the 62nd minute, Ander Herrera too the Red Devils ahead and Mourinho’s team had brought the match to its logical conclusion.

After the match, the media reminded the football world that this elimination from the cup semi-final will be the eighth in history for Tottenham. The Spurs couldn’t reach the final stage and fight for the trophy. Despite the game, built by Mauricio Pochettino, he is not bringing any results. The team has not won a single cup and because of that some players intend to leave in the summer. Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are packing their suitcases and the four Alli, Son, Kane and Eriksen are desired in top teams of the Old World.

The English Cup was the only chance to keep Tottenham’s backbone on the team as well as the manager. Pochettino said after the match:

“This is an unpleasant defeat. It is hard to accept it. We are devastated that we  were eliminated and didn’t advance to the final. We dominated the first half and played better than Manchester United. United defended well and deep.

We are sad because we came so close to and were eliminated. We have to think about that defeat, move on and try to finish the season in the top four”.

It is hard to presume, what is the main reason of Tottenham’s misfortunes. There’s an intractable managent, loving to save money. And the lack of quality footballers on the bench, capable of strengthening the game at any moment. And of course, the psychological barrier formed by the team’s inability to get a new trophy in the museum for the past ten years.

It is important for Tottenham to preserve the backbone for the next season, strengthen in the summer transfer window and make another attempt of going after the cups. But the main thing is leaving Mauricio Pochettino aat the head coach post.
