Barcelona are ready to buy Griezmann

The Catalan Barcelona don not hide their desire to purchase Antoine Griezmann this summer. Blaugranas president Josep Bartomeu informed his counterpart from Atletico about his desire to pay the clause of 100 million Euros.

The Catalans have been interested in the French forward throughout the year, therefore the club’s official interest and Blaugranas’ president’s claims are no surprise. Cadena SER portal claims that Bartomeu contacted Atletico president Enrique Cerezo regarding Griezmann’s transfer. However, the Mattressers’ head keeps hoping that they will manage to keep the forward at Wanda Metropolitano.

In the current reality, Griezmann is necessary for Barcelona as there is a task of restoring an attacking trio, much like Messi-Suarez-Neymar before the Catalans. Coutinho, who came this winter for 160 million Euros will become Iniesta’s replacement, who announced his departure by the end of the current season. Dembele did not live up to expectations and money invested in him because of injuries and therefore attack strengthening is a necessary fiction  for continuation of Barcelona’s hegemony in Spain and returning to the European throne.

The player himself has gotten attached to Atletico during his time in Madrid, as reported by As with the reference to L’Equipe. Besides, the Frenchman claimed on March, that he wants to resolve all transfer issues before the World Cup in Russia. Barcelona is not going to be satisfied with such an approach as on the first of July the sum of compensation for Griezmann will decrease from 200 million Euros to 100.

The French forward’s teammate commented on the possible transfer of the Little Prince saying the following:

“I am lucky to return to Atletico and he knows that if he moves to Barcelona, he will never have such an opportunity again. Therefore he should consider that.

Antoine knows that the whole team wants him to stay. In any case, he is fully concentrated on our tasks right now”.

In case Griezmann dares to move to Barcelona – he will get a promotion. This is an advantage against the stagnation in Atletico, the club who hasn’t won the Champions League. Griezmann is not considering a chance of moving beyond the Spanish border and therefore Manchester United's interest in the forward is reduced to nothing. There is no point in transferring to Jose Mourinho’s building project. Griezmann will remain in Primera, but will he change the kit, looking like the last century’s bed mattress on Blaugranas stripes will be known in Summer. In any case, the transfer will be mutually beneficial in all senses for both parties.
