Kovac is leaving on a positive note

In the German Cup final, Eintracht from Frankfurt won the title from the second attempt. Last year the Eagles lost 2:1 to Borussia Dortmund, but one year later they have got their revenge by defeating 1:3 Bayern Munich.

In Spring Bayern announced that Jupp Heynckes’ successor will be the current manager of Entracht Niko Kovac. THe Croat has made the Franfurt team the participant of the Europa League in two seasons and twice led the Eagles to the German Cup final, winning the title ahead of the move to Munich. Throughout the match at Olimpiastadion in Berlin, Heynckes’ Red Machine controlled the game and because of that 66% of the time possessed the ball, making 22 shots. However, just like in matches with Real – the Bavarians’ problem lied in realization. Having the odds of expected goals of 2.4, the champions of Germany scored one goal, equalizing the score in the beginning of the second half. Lewandowski’s goal became the first and the last one for Bayern in the final, while Eintracht out of 8 shots thrice scored in Ulreich’s goal.

The nominal hosts took by hegemony on the football pitch, due to accent on a gam on flanks. Just like in matches with Real, the Reds’ attack was built on the left wing of Alaba and Ribery, the midfield was cemented by Javi Martinez and Alcantara and James tried to serve the ball to Lewnadowski, who was cut off from the team by Eintracht defense.

The Eagles worked on the field tightly and didn’t fall back to defense much, as was expected by Heynckes before the match. Kovac’s team came out pumped to battle and managed to give it in the midfield and thanks to that pressed run into counter-attacks. Eight shots mostly from the penalty box led to three goals and the Cup, which also led Eintracht  to the Europa League group stage.

Niko KOvac summed up the team’s result after the match,

“We had everything planned after the match. I am happy for the club, the supporters and my amazing team. If you pull together, you can achieve everything. The team proved that.

Last year, we didn’t manage to win, this year we did it. You cannot say we have got the cup undeservedly. I am happy with the title, but at the same time I am sad that I am leaving.”

A test awaits the Croat, which turned out to be too hard for Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and in some sense Jupp Heynckes – to win the Champions League. Kovac showed his level in Eintracht on an example of a fight with the hegemon of the German football, which it deservedly won. Therefore, all is left is just say good luck and hope that the manager will be capable of overcoming generation change in Bayern and achieve success on international arena.
