National team of Ukraine has reinforcement

The Shakhtar Donetsk forward, Junior Moraes, became a citizen of Ukraine recently. The forward went in the footsteps of other Donetsk club players, having repeated the destiny of Marko Devic, Marlos and also Edmar, known for his performance for Metalist Kharkiv.

Moraes has been playing in Ukraine since 2012. At first, the naturalized Brazilian performed at Metalurh Donetsk, however, after the team fell apart, the forward was picked up by Dynamo Kyiv. Last summer, the player moved to Shakhtar, having received a wave of criticism in his address, but whereas continues to perform on a high level for the Ukrainian football. In 29 matches for the Coalminers Moraes scored 21 goals and made seven assists.

Having the Ukrainian citizenship, the footballer can participate in the national team matches for the 2020 European championship qualification already, where the Blue-Yellows will fight Portugal and Luxembourg on 22nd and 25th March respectively. Myron Markevych, the former national team, Dnipro and Metalist manager has already expressed his thoughts regarding Moraes receiving the citizenship,

“How do I see his naturalization? Absolutely fine. The guy wants to play for the national team, what’s the problem? Especially considering that we have problems ahead.”

Footballers naturalization is a normal practice. Let us remember Diego Costa, Roman Neustadter or other “new Ukrainians”. Shevchenko’s national team lacks a center-forward capable of playing low. Most of the strikers in the Blue-Yellows camp after Sheva’s departure were pillars in attack, which needed crosses. Roman Zozulya was an exception, due to his height.

Now the national team of Ukraine received a technical forward, who together with Konoplyanka, Zinchenko and Malynovskyi will open up defense of the defended team, with which Shevchenko always had problems. The first test of strength will be against Portugal, to the camp of which Cristiano Ronaldo has returned. Considering problems in defense and the absence of Rakitskyi, Ukraine’s only chance on a victory is a good game in attack. The odds on the Blue-Yellows’ victory at Estadio da Luz are 8.90. The triumph of the hosts is evaluated as 1.43 and the draw as – 4.64.
