Barcelona and PSG to fight for best forward of Spain

Alongside the Catalan Barcelona, the French PSG have joined the battle for Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Griezmann.

This weekend, the world champion in the squad of the national team of France announced his departure from Atletico Madrid, in which he spent five years. During that time the footballer together with the Mattressers won the Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Super Cup of Spain and also was named the best player of La Liga in 2015/16 season.

The Little Prince, as the footballer is called by the fans, said goodbye to the supporters and stated,

“Having talked to Diego Simeone, Miguel Angel Gil and people in the management, I would like to let the fans, who love me very much, know that I have made a decision to leave, try something different, a new challenge.

It was an important period. You are forever in my heart; therefore, I wanted you to know this after the club and the manager.”

The player also thanked all fans for the support after 256 matches for the Indians, in which he scored 133 goals.

It is ungrateful business competing with Real and Barcelona, but Diego Simeone built a fantastic team, which was capable of fighting equally with the giants of the peninsula. Besides, Atletico advanced to the Champions League final twice for the past five years, but both times lost to Real Madrid.

As for Griezmann, Barcelona have been closely watching him for a long time. Last year the Catalans actively negotiated with the forward, bypassing transfer policy rules. But back then Griezmann made a decision to remain at Wanda Metropolitano. On the first of July already, the compensation sum for the Frenchman will decrease from 200 million euros to 120 million. This will allow the clubs, which are interested in Antoine, save some serious funds. According to the forward’s contract, 20% from his sale will be received by Real Sociedad, from which he move to Atletico in 2014.

PSG intend to fill the central forward position with Griezmann in case of Edinson Cavani’s departure. The Uruguayan intends to leave the Champions of France’s camp, but whereas PSG will hardly be able to fit the financial fair-play framework, if they do not sell Neymar and Mbappe. Besides, the atmosphere inside the Frehnch hegemon will not contribute Griezmann’s development.

Bookmakers have determined the chances of most Europe’s top clubs in pursuit of Griezmann. The odds on the Frenchman’s transfer this summer are as follows: Barcelona - 1,05; Manchester United – 13.0; Juventus – 15,0; Manchester City – 17,0; Liverpool – 17,0; Bayern – 21,0; PSG – 26,0; Real Madrid – 26,0.
