Guardiola accepts challenge to win UCL

After the second season as the head of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has spoken out about the importance of a victory in the Champions League and intends to do that in the near future.

The Catalan specialist is famous for his work at Barcelona. After victories in the Champions league with Blaugranas, the manager was bothered with reproaches that he wouldn’t be able to do it without Xavi, Iniesta and Messi. Pep accepted the challenge and went to Bayern, where he dropped out at the semi-final stage for two seasons in a row.

Having arrived to the Albion, the manager had the same task together with inside hegemony. This season Manchester City under Guardiola’s management won the EPL league title for the second time in a row, won the English Super Cup and also won the League Cup as well as the English Cup, having gathered four titles. However, on the international arena, the Citizens didn’t advance farther than quarter-finals. Last season they were eliminated by Liverpool and this year by Tottenham, which, like the Reds, played in the final.

The fact that Liverpool, which Guardiola overtook in the league by one point, won the final and got the trophy, is even more painful for him. After that, in an interview to the club channel, the manager claimed,

“Football always gives another chance. People say that we cannot be considered one of the best, until we win the Champions League. This is normal. We accept the challenge.

Ten years ago, no one could imagine that the club will be able to take the EPL. Now the people are talking about the Champions League. This is the first step and it’s good. If this happens next season, then it’s next season. With or without me, with these or with other players. Maybe someday it will happen. If not, we are not lucky. But we will try to do it.”

The manager also said that amongst all top championships he considers EPL, the best league in the world because of fans’ influence and support, which Germany and Spain don’t have.

Right now, Guardiola has enough resources to fight for the Champions League cup. Considering that Liverpool already took the title, they can weaken their interest for the tournament. Considering the building Real and Atletico, unconfident Barcelona, aging Juventus and unstable Bayern, this is a great chance for the Citizens.
