Juventus from Turin announced signing of a long-term contract with Ajax leader last year with Matthijs de Ligt.

The former defender of Ajax Amsterdam and the Netherlands national team Matthijs de Ligt will continue his career in the camp of the champions of Italy. The Old Lady press service announced that on their website on Thursday.

According to the contract, which was signed by the 19-year-old football player, de Ligt will remain at Stadio Allianz until June 30, 2024. Juventus will also pay Ajax 75 million euros for the player over the next five years. In addition to the principal amount, the Turinians can pay about 10 million euros more in the form of bonuses for defender’s play. The fact that this transfer will be realized was known on Tuesday, when the player flew to Turin for a medical examination.

Last season, de Ligt played on the pitch in 55 matches for Ajax in all tournaments. Also, the defender was the captain of the team and led the Amsterdam players to the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they lost on the sum of two matches to Tottenham, having the advantage of three goals after three times out of four. In these fights, De Ligt gave four assists and scored seven goals himself.

Despite a busy year, the defender was facing a battle for a trophy in the League of Nations. The Netherlands national team reached the final of the new tournament, but lost to Portugal. As it turned out, the leader of the Portuguese national team offered the 19-year-old footballer to go to Juventus,

“Yes it did happen. At first I did not understand him. I was a little shocked, so I laughed. But I didn't tell him anything. Immediately after the match, not before. You are disappointed in defeat, and this is the only thing you think about.

The transfer window will open soon, but first you need a good rest. What will be will be. We'll see.”

Thus, Juventus for the second time sign the leaders of their offenders during the Champions League. Last season, it was Ajax who beat out the Old Lady at the stage of the quarter-finals of the most prestigious club tournament in Europe, and Matthias de Ligt scored the last goal of the confrontation, which led Ajax to the semifinals of the tournament.
