Shaw to become Man Utd legend?
Manchester United and England left-back Luke Shaw has signed a new contract with his club! The 27-year-old's contract with the Red Devils runs until the summer of 2027.
Luke Shaw joined Manchester United in 2014 as a talented Southampton winger. I his first season, he adapted to new realities, and in September 2015, in the Champions League match against PSV, the then 20-year-old Luke received a severe injury - a double leg fracture. It seemed that he would no longer play at a high level...
But, despite all the disappointing predictions, Shaw made a triumphant return to football and firmly booked his left-back position at Manchester United. For many years, he has been one of the few bright spots of the modern Red Devils, who are going through hard times in their history. And the apotheosis of Luke's career was his goal in the Euro 2020 final against Italy, which, however, did not bring the Cup to the English.
Given the importance of Luke Shaw to the Mancunians, a contract extension was a matter of the near future. The club believes that with his example the player will inspire his teammates to more meaningful football, bringing prestigious trophies. Having been in Manchester for over eight years, Luke has only won two League Cups, one FA Community Shield and one Europa League. Not a lot, as for the most popular football club in the world.
The main problem that haunts Shaw throughout his career is injuries. In addition to the fracture mentioned above, Luke suffered a dozen less serious injuries, which often prevented him from demonstrating his high level. However, in the current campaign, the 27-year-old defender is staying out of trouble and playing an important role in Erik ten Hag's new team. Shaw can be replaced by a young Dutch defender Tyrell Malacia at any moment, so the Red Devils will not have problems with the left-back for a long time.
Despite all the changes, Manchester United fully trust Luke Shaw, who personifies the club of the “post-Ferguson” era. He has every chance to reach a new level of development with the Red Devils and write his name in their history with golden letters as a vivid example of devotion and perseverance.
